Softboard - Softie - Foamie - Soft Surfboard
The
softboard has many names and comes in many shapes and designs. You can
buy a soft surfboard in a longboard, mini-mal or even a shortboard.
ADVANTAGES
The main advantage of a soft surfboard or softboard is that a foamie does not
you hurt or injure you or other surfers. When you fall of a wave or get
hit by a soft surfboard, because it is a softboard it may bruise you
but it wont generally cut you or another person in the surf. Depending
on the style of the board minimal, longboard or shortboard will
determine its surfing characteristics. Peferct for learning to surf,
beginners or surfing in crowded areas of the beach.
DISADVANTAGES
Soft surfboards don’t perform as well as epoxy or fibreglass surf boards and
tend to be slower and heavier both in the surf and on the land. You
should always wear a rashie or rash vest when surfing on a soft
surfboard as they tend to give you a rash more easily as they have more
friction on the surface of the board. Because they have rubber fins they don't turn or respond as well as a normal surfboard. If you want to have a surfboard you can progress on more quickly you should look at buying a mini-mal surfboard.
